Schmidt was a little nervous, at first, but kick it into gear and never looked back.

I have seen John Schmidt play several times before. In this tournament, his performance was head and shoulders above what I had seen in the past.

I was told that another player had worked with John for a few weeks, to help him with his game. If this is true, it certainly worked.
I won't name the other player because I can not verify this information.

Rich,

Did you notice who was sitting next to John's girlfriend? that was long time mentor/coach and friend, Bobby Hunter of Carson City NV.

John and Bobby go way back. Both were seen at any type of major west coast event up until about 2 or 3 years ago when John moved to Florida.

Remember when Mike Siegel broke his cue after losing to a young 14.1 player in the Straight Pool event in New York in the late 90s early 2000s? The opponent was John Schmidt.

It's about time John

Tom, I did notice Hunter and I'm sure he gives John a lot of support. John also mentioned him in his remarks after the match. However, he is not the player I was referring to. The player I heard helped John is more of John's generation.
