DCC behind the scenes: Part2

This brings me to another important point. When we started the DCC it was designed not for Casinos! I wanted money lost gambling to stay amongst the players not lost to a Casino. However, at that time Casino action was either in Vegas or Atlantic City, not every where in you're back yard as it is today. I don't believe at this time seeing a slot machine or crap table is as big of a deal as it was then. I may be completely off base and as some say the pool action will be off at the DCC this coming year, but I don't think so. Many people take their vacations for this pool action and if they want it to happen it will. The economy is another story!

High gas prices and increased room rates will definitely have their effect on gambling and even attendance. More people may have to share rooms (if that's possible HA) and plan ahead. Just like were having to do to make this event continue.

I realize I haven't even told you the rates they are charging us. The rate is $105 during the week and $130 on the weekend. If you are lucky enough to have a Harrah's Card you may get it free or greatly reduced. I'm pulling for you as this year I don't get 1 free room, even for myself or family. They tell me it's the best they can do this year and keep saying that no group has ever received that low of rates. They are also making us guarantee a food and beverage minimum. I can definitely tell I'm starting over!.. I have to admit the whole place is a few notches above what we have had in the past. Also another potential problem is they only have 503 rooms and are only allowing us 300 for sure. Since we filled 550 rooms at the Ex. West for 5 out of 9 days everyone won't have a room on site. To handle this problem we have 2 hotels 8 miles away that we will be supplying our own free shuttles. One is a Holiday Express being newly remodeled and a fairly new Hampton Inn. The good thing is we're trying to get a lower rate guaranteeing all the rooms. Don't know the rate for sure at this time, but it will probably be more like the Executive Inn's rate last year. If anyone knows how to get a better rate go for it.

There's more I'd like to tell you but since I type so slow enough for today. Please save you're questions till I do part 3 tomorrow. Thanks, Greg

Ok, I know this is an old post I am replying to - but I would just like to comment that you should bring the Derby Classic to Atlanta
