Hello Sarah,
I just want to say how beautiful you are and how truly amazing your accomplishments are. I'm curious about the strength/weight control techniques that you use. Can you tell me a little about your program? I know "exercise more and eat less" is always in there, but what do you do?

Thank you in advance,
Marymoon

I'm not Sarah, and I apologize if I'm stepping on toes here, but the old theory of "eat less, exercise more" is a myth. If you're actually putting effort into exercising you should probably be eating more. Of course that doesn't mean eat more pizza or ice cream or drink more cokes, but if you are exercising you should get more calories than you think you should. A good balance between carbs, proteins and fats. Your body needs the energy. If you're not getting enough calories and you're working out, running etc... then you're seriously just burning your body out. Without the right amount of energy put in, your body can actually turn on you and slow your metabolism down.

If you'd like to discuss this more in depth feel free to drop me a PM. More than happy to help out.

That's good info. Our hospital has a wellness center and I just signed up. Before you can join you have to have a full physical. Then they do a series of body composition, strength and endurance tests. With their program you are advised by their doctors, personal trainers, nutritionists etc. so you're not just flying blind. For the first 60 days they are wanting me to change my diet and only do cardio exercises. At the end of 60 days they will reevaluate me and let me know if I can start strength training. If they feel I am ready they will work on a routine tailored to my specific needs and goals. I don't want to be Mr. Olympia but I do want to hit the golf ball further . It's been very eye opening and I feel that I am going to have much better results than just signing up at my local gym and going at it alone.

Marymoon: Thanks for the kind words. I've attached some information regarding my meal plan and diet. If you can send me an email at: SarahL@L2inc.com, I'll send you my workout routine.

As for exercise more eat less, that does not work. It actually does the opposite, stores fat! Take a look at the diet information and if you have any questions, feel free to ask. If I was starting from scratch I would follow the meal plan and incorporate 2 days a week strength training (One upper, one lower body) and the rest of the time cardio. DO NOT do any cardio on your strength training days. 5 days a week try and do 45-60 mins cardio.

It's very important that you cut out alcohol while you are trying to reach your desired goals. If you can't do this, try not drinking through the week and in moderation at the weekends.

Hope this helps!

Sarah

Hi Murray: How's life and the family? Glad to hear you are taking care of yourself, great first step! I know there's a Golds Gym up there, so when you are ready, maybe we can get together for a workout session. Let me know when you're ready

If you need any help with training or have any questions, let me know. You are on the right track. Quick question, is the wellness center a Campisi Center?

Take care and talk soon, Sarah

Yeah I'm staring 40 in the face and decided that if I don't start now it will just make it harder in the long run.

They haven't let me loose on the weights yet. Last week was my first week in the program. Right now they have me just doing cardio three days. I'm doing a 5 min. warm up on the tread mill. Then it's 12 min. on the life cycle, 15 min. on the rowing machine and finally 15 min. on the treadmill. After 60 days they do a reevaluation and I can start strength 2 days a week. I'll have to take you up on a work out session one of these days although it will be embarrassing when you bench more than me .

It doesn't say it's a Campisi center but after reading about them it's obvious that they are trying to be similar.

Once I get into my routine I'll give you a shout and we can compare notes. I'm still pretty clueless on all of this fitness stuff.
