Default I'm looking for a good pool table
Hi, I'm looking for a good pool table to put in my apartment. It's on the second floor. Should I get an 8 footer so it isn't too hard to get up? Also, are there any brands that i should look for over others?

they bring the table up and down in pieces. Get a table that fits your room. Add ten feet to the size of your table. That should be the minimum size of your room. I'd go for the biggest pool table that I could get.

If they don't tear it apart, don't let them touch your pool table. I had a couple of guys lift a table of mine. The table bowed and the slates chipped right where they came together. The table mechanice had to put bees wax in the jonits between the slates forever. I sold the pool table shortly after that because it was never the same. For what it's worth...

Try the free papers around your town. I see pool tables advertised there somewhat often.

did you find a pool table yet? What size did you decide on?

I'm still looking. Every time I call, the people are rude and say something like "It's sold!" and hang up. What's with people? Like I was suppoed to know. I'm not that one that put the ad in. People can really be rude. Anyway, I'm still looking.

Try craigslist.com - here in the Denver area, used pool tables pop up every day, often for cheap. A good 8-footer goes for $500-$1000, including balls, cues, lights, etc.

Most will be "cash and carry". You don't want to do that yourself. Hire a pool table installer, about $200.

The add-ten-feet rule applies to the playing surface's dimensions, BTW. Don't measure from the outside of the rails.

Also, you can get away with adding 9 to 9.5 feet instead of 10 feet most of the time. A standard cue is 58" vs. 5' = 60". Most shots will be at less than a 90 degree angle to the wall, which gives you more room. The butt of the cue will be elevated on most shots where the cue ball is very near the rail, so you'll have more room to the wall than when the cue is level. Buy a "shorty" 52" cue for the occasional shot that's on the rail, perpendicular to the wall, and requires a level cue. A bigger room is better, of course, but apartments are tight.

hi

first post here so go easy. Anyway i am also looking for a pool table for an apartment, im no expert so im here to find some anwers from those who are.

anyway im torn between a 6ft and a 7ft table. i wish i could be lucky enough to have space for an 8footer or bigger but in an apartment i just dont have space in abundance. the room i will use has no furniture or anything except for an empty space where a pool table will sit.

my first question is whether it is even worth buying a 6ft pool table? for me im just not sure, they seem so small, if all i could fit was a 6 footer then is it even worth having one at all? or is that an overeaction?

my second question is probably not in the right part of the forums but it is relevant to my choice of pool table, the question is what are people opinions of 36inch cues? i will definetly need one no matter what size table i pick for the room for shots near and against the rail at the sides of the table, at the top and bottom i should be fine with bigger cues and also i should be fine for balls nearer the centre of the table

my third question is how much extra space do you need above the length of the cue and the dimensions of the playing surface? i have about 2 inches on both of the sides if i use a 36 inch cue and have my cue perfectly horizontal, but as mentioned before the cue is not always horizontal, at the top and the bottom of the table i have sufficient space. i measured and marked it all out on my floor and cut a bit of wood to 36 inches and i was pretty comfortable with it but still, thats a far cry from the real thing

and finally just an afterthought really, i have a table in mind and it is of course slate, but as i mentioned before i live on the apartment on the 3rd floor, i dont think the table should be too heavy for a standard apartment floor but i just want to check if anyone thinks 250kg (im not sure what this is in pounds) is too heavy

so it would be much appreciated if some of you could take a little time to offer some advice to me, i feel determined to get a 7ft table, and it should be noted that this would only be a practice table and for some light hearted games but then again if im trying to fit a 7 ft table in a room that can only take a 6ft table then that probably wouldnt be much good either
