"The best ferrule material". The "best" in appearance? The "best" in quality? The "best" in performance? The "best" for who? My "best" may not be your "best".

All ferrule material is good material. The question is what do you want it to do? What type of performance are you looking for and then that particular ferrule may be 'best" for you. It's very subjective and it all depends on what game you're playing and what you are looking for. I hope this helps a little.

The ferrule is the part at the top of your cue shaft that the cue tip is attached to.

You will probably get as many answers to this question as there are pool players. Everyone has their favorite.

My favorite is ivory, but that is JMHO.
I like the way it feels and it is very easy to clean up.
That doesn't mean that other materials are not good. I'm sure every one has their favorite.

I've been interested to find out whether an ivory ferrule would have better characteristics than the synthetic ones I've had, so I've decided to test it. A few months after I get my new cue (should be any day), I'll have the synthetic ferrule replaced with an ivory one as quickly as possible. If possible, I'll reuse the tip.

Any suggestions on how I might improve this ferrule test? I want to come as close as possible to isolating the change to only the ferrule material.

Default ferrule
Any ferrule if installed properly will play good. When it comes down to feel and feedback there a a boatload of answers. Threaded and capped vs. solid tennon. I personally feel threaded capped gives the best feedback. Ivory is my first choice but as a standard on my cues I use LBM. Hard...
