Default Seeking Information to begin cue making...
Hello,
I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I am extremely interested in learning the process and techniques of cue making. I am looking for any resources that may help me out. Really very interested but need a good push in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

Dan

Thumbs up
Dan,
That's why we started this forum and, starting with this issue, started a cue building article in Inside POOL Magazine. Joe Barringer will be posting here and writing the articles. Have fun, ask questions. He loves to help out. Never know, you might even be immortalized by being the topic of one of Joe's articles.

JR,
thanks for the information. the article in the current inside pool mag on cue making, is that a general introductory? Would you happen to know a good place to start to gather a parts list and equipment to start. I am trying not to get ahead of myself but its hard seeing as though I don't know where to start Thank you in advance.

Dan

Joe B. is a knowledgable person and can help. Also, you may want to contact Chris Hightower and his website at www.cuesmith.com. Chris has also written a cuemaking book that can be very helpful starting out.

Might I be able to pick your brain a little more if you have some time, would really appreciate it. Also had a question about purchasing a cameron cue. Possible to talk? thanks

Hello Dan...

I apologize for not responding sooner but I had an emergency to tend to and was unavailable for about 3 weeks. All is well and it's back to business.

There's a ton of worthwhile information available today online through various web sites and newsgroups. Although this discussion forum is in its infancy, we anticipate it to evolve into the preeminent place to gather and share information.

There are numerous web sites which have indepth information about cue building such as www.cuemaker.com, www.cuesmith.com, www.uniqueinc.com and of course our own web site www.CueComponents.com. You may also want to check out www.PratheCue.com and www.CueStik.com. Additionally, some offer video or DVD's about cue building techniques. Many are worthwhile.

Oh and BTW.... Chris Hightower at www.CueSmith.com has a great book which covers cue building. It's a good read and will familiarize you with key terms, equipment, tools, photo's and it has a wealth of information. It's well worth the price tag.

Search around the web and you'll find more information than you can handle. Our advice is to read as much as you can and soak up as much as you can. Take your time and think it out as cue building, as rewarding as it may be, is full of pitfalls. It may appear easy and the profits may appear astronomical but the reality of all that is very much different. Few make it beyond a 2 year period. If you think this is something you want to tackle, go slow and set goals and a time frame. You're not going to gather information this month, buy equipment next month and sell cues the following month. It takes years.

I do hope this proves useful to you and feel free to ask any additional questions that you may have.

Dan you might also check these sites out http://gabrielcues.thejayhawk.com
http://www.cuemaker.com/dieckmanwrittenword.htm. Also check out Raven Cues and Ted Harris Cues sites. Just searching the web is your best chance along with reading the different web forums.
