Default Infuriated Deuel Blasts 'sharking' Majid
Thisa is actually a good story.

Infuriated Deuel Blasts 'sharking' Majid

A Furious Corey Deuel blasted billiards player Imran Majid as "a disgrace to pool" and accused the European player of "sharking".

In an explosive pre-match interview before his encounter with Ralf Souquet, Deuel was unhappy as American captain Johnny Archer had just suffered a 7-2 defeat against Majid.

Deuel said: "What's this guy's name? The guy (Majid) is a disgrace to pool. I don't think he should ever play in this competition again. He was sharking our player wiping his hands on his towel in the last match."

Television evidence showed one incident of Majid wiping his hands on his towel but had stopped a clear five seconds before Archer went to play his shot.

Commentator Jim Wych defended Majid's behaviour and believes Deuel just made his remarks to try to deflect the pressure off himself.

"It cannot be used as an excuse and there's no reason for Corey to moan whatsoever," said Wych.

"The nature of pool players is that we're always looking for excuses. I think it didn't come out as Corey intended and I think he was trying to put the pressure on someone else but it didn't really work out."

After Deuel's match against Souquet ended in a 7-2, the American tried to defuse the situation and apologised live on television to Majid, although he was now unhappy at referee Nigel Rees.

"I want to say sorry to Imran Majid and I shouldn't have said that," added Deuel. "I was a little bit mad we had lost two matches and they've been hard. But he does need to quieten it down with the towel.

"I think I got screwed on the lag and I think I won it. But Ralf played perfectly and they played well but it's only one day and there's a long way to go. It's an honour to play Ralf and a complete gentlemen on the table."

I used to like Cory Deuel, but now I'm not so sure. He doesn't seem to be conducting himself very professionally lately. Maybe I'm just uninformed, and he always acts this way?

Although Corey is no necessarily one of my favorite people, in his defense, I must say that he does not normally act badly in tournaments. I have to believe he was provoked.

Actually Corey whines a lot when he loses. He must think that he's never supposed to lose. His sportsmanship skills are definitely those of an amateur.

so are you saying that Corey is becoming the "bad Boy" of pool? Is he on his way to be the next Earl?

Default Corey's Behavior
I've seen Corey play a few times and he gets a little rattled after a loss and tends to make some excuses for sure, but he's still a great player and he just has high expectations for his performance. He was out of line at the mosconi cup I believe, but he's never done some of the things that Earl has, so there's no comparison there. This Mosconi Cup seemed to flare up like when they had a problem with the American's "Celebration" at the (Ryder Cup?) Does anyone feel that the format is too short for The Mosconi Cup? Or does that short race add to the excitement maybe?

I have a hard time saying that a four day format is short. I think that they played 4-5 hours per day too. I do see your point though. I remember when the pro tour was a race to 13. Fans got boared. They want quicker gratification. I think TV pushes that issue even more.

Televised tournaments have raised the public's awareness of pool from something men did in a dark and smoky pool room to a respectd sport of skill and finesse. As in all things there is a price to pay for that, and that price being, working with the television format so that they can fit tournaments into their time slots.

Cory is hanging around bad company. just what this sport needs. pool is such a head game and lesser people will resort to messing with their opponents head if they cant win. most bar players have more tact than that ( probably because they know whats waiting for them out in the parking lot later on). this is why I respect the womens circuit more than the mens. you never hear a peep outa Alison or C. koor its just about the game and the stick does all the talking.
So.. those are the people that are representing USA, how embarrassing. no wonder the rest of the world thinks we are a bunch of spoiled brats
