Default ***Ask the Cuemaker #7 Thomas Wayne***
I am happy to announce that the 7th installation of ask the cuemaker is on the man that I consider to me one of the true artists in the industry. IMO there is no person alive who can touch Thomas when it comes to unique one of a kind designs, as well as theme cues and CNC execution. Thomas sold the first cue to eclipse the $100,000 mark (Celtic Prince). Anyone who has seen his work knows that there is no equal, recently the idea about a cue off between Thomas and R.Black was brought up, I can say that there would be no question who the winner would be in my mind.

As always I get to ask the first question and in this case I plan to ask a few to get the ball rolling, it's good to be the king.

1) It has been reported many times that you once said "if you buy one of my cues to play with you are buying the wrong cue" Is this an accurate quote, and if so can you explain these words in context? Can you tell us your thoughts on a cue as a pool playing instrument as apposed to a work of art.

2) Can you tell me what your top 3 favorite cues were to research, design and build were?

3) As many know I've been a huge opponent of cue design theft, can you share some of your thoughts on this issue?

Jim <----3's enough for now, but I'll be back.

What is/are the most difficult material(s) that you've ever worked with on a cue?

If money or legalities were no issue, what material would you like to use in a cue?

What is the oddest/strangest/worst theme for a cue have you been asked to do? Have there been themes that you refused?

Fred

Its not a question to ask, but I think the first time you see one of his cues the question is "How did he do that?"

I just had to follow up this question by jimbo.

First of all, I will assume the statement is true. Based on that, I have to ask, if people should not buy your cues to play with, why have you chosen cue making to express your artistic talents, as opposed to other art mediums?

And, to follow that question, do you create any other works of art, other than cues?

To follow up on Jimbo's first question....
I have a straight ebony with silver rings cue that I bought off of you at the Expo in Vegas back in 99. I'm wondering if this cue was meant to be played with? It can't be a piece of art, it's just a plain black stick. hehe!!

Just ribbin' you, Thomas. Good to see you around again. My actual question for you would be how I can get another shaft made for this cue, how much it would cost, and how long would it take?

Thanks in advance!
MULLY

Thomas,
First, thanks for taking the time to answer our questions. My questions....

- What prompted you to get away from the more traditional cues you started out with to the elaborate cues that you do today?

- What part of the cue building process do you enjoy most? Design, execution, sniffing exotic wood dust?

- Do you have an artistic background that helps with your creative designs? (sorry if this is redundant with the bio of you in the Blue Book)

- And, finally..... isn't purpleheart just the ugliest wood in the world for cues? (for Jimbo - )

Scott

Ok, don't take this the wrong way, but who are you?

Can you tell us that aren't too familiar with all the cuemakers something about your background and how you got into cuemaking?

Thanks.

Eric

Eric isn't a cue guy so he get's a pass, also I probably did a bad Job in the first post not giving a good enough background on TW. To me he needs no introduction, but I guess I'm a bit of a cue junky.

4) Hey Thomas got any crazy cues you can post a pic of now in progress? maybe a cad pic so we can see how it starts out and then the finished product.
