I've had the pleasure of meeting Jack and his wife the past two years at the DCC. They are the friendliest people you will ever meet. Here's my question:

I know you don't use tubes any longer. Can you explain the process of lining the tubes with felt?

My biggest problem when deciding on a case was what it would look like when it was finished. If there were more samples it would make that process a lot easier. I apologize for not going forward with my case but I knew what I was getting with the Instroke. I really wanted a Justis case but I didn't want to make a mistake on tooling or color and end up not liking it. Those small samples are nice for a detailed close up but they don't exactly show what that tooling would look like over an entire case. If you could click on them to see a case using that particular style would be nice.

I also want to see a full shot of Buddy and Efren's cases
Hi Mully,
I will keep in mind your suggestions the next time we redo the site. In the meantime here are a couple pics of Efren and Buddy's case.

Also, for what it is worth, I hope my zippers are on the correct way, not the Jimbo way.
Hi Rich,
Nice seeing you in VF. I'm wishiing the days would be longer so I could get more done.....but I also understand your side and yes, your zippers are right.

Jeeves was kind enough to send me a disk of the pics he took at VF. I thought you and Toots would like to have a copy.

Thanks Timberly, This should solve my roach problem in the shop!

Hi Hal,
I didn't realize I was that friendly...some people might take that the wrong way..

Early on we did use a felt like material but it did not wear well at all. In fact, some of the interiors would get ratty looking before the case was sold. We changed over to a much higher quality and better wearing material similar to gabardine and we used this til the end of the tube type design. The material was cut in strips and Toots sewed the strips to fit the diameter of the tubes. She would then pull the sewn liners into the tubes with a small hook installed on the end of a 1/4" wooden dowel. I would then adjust the length of the liner, stretch the ends of the liner over the tube and secure the top and bottom with masking tape. I hated this job because not matter how tight the tubes were taped together overtime they would have the tendency to become untaped and change the shape of the case. These problems were eliminated with the ProLites that is built around a single PVC tube.

Mr. Justis, since I know absolutely nothing about working leather, I hope these questions are not too basic.

1. Do you work all of your hides (i.e. split them) to get a consistent thickness?

2. Is your tooling done with a hand tool or some sort of machine?

3. Is the tooling done before the hide is applied to the case structure or after?

Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions. You do great looking work.

Hi Jack,

I noticed on your site that you make a 1x2, 2x4, and 3x6.
Do you also make odd numbered cases such as 2x3, 3x5, etc...?

Also, how tightly do the cues fit in the sleeves? Is it a very tight fit or are they loose?

Thanks in advance and I have always loved the look of your cases.

Jack,

Just stopping in to say hello again.

As a long time owner of one of your cases, I have always used it, rather than look at it. Other than putting a protective coating on the leather, I don't do much to take care of it and it still looks great!

My question is that I have an older 3x6 case and it is a bit heavy. You warned me when I ordered it and I should have listened. How much lighter is the new 2x4 Pro Lite vs. the old tube 3x6?

I might need to do something as my left shoulder is getting a lot bigger than my right from carrying the extra weight...

Heavens no....this is done at the tannery with a $250,000 machine that would take up my whole shop plus half of the lawn...
