Default Derby City Classic security issues
Does anybody know about the security that will be available at the Derby City Classic? If one was to have any concerns with this great tournament, it would be something about this area. If I go, I would like to know that I'll be safe. Call me old fashioned. Call me a scaredy cat. I want to be safe. It's just my fear that where there's money, there's bound to be problems. Especially if a lot people know that there's money there. I don't want to be the "mark".

I've heard some horror stories. I doubt that all are true. But this concerns me too.

Where there is money there is always the chance of trouble and there is no way to predict when and where it will happen.
At any tournament, if you are going to be carrying a tidy sum of cash, always be aware of your surroundings and who is around you. Do your best not to flash the cash for others to see. When walking to the parking lot, or other areas out side the hotel, be sure to go when there are a number of people around.
As you can see, these are just general suggestions that would be good to follow no matter where you are. I'm sure there are others you can think of.

I think that Dirtypool is asking about security and/or officers. I'm concerned with this too after all of the stories that I heard. The presence of a few security officers might deter the occassional incident. I would feel a lot safer if there were going to be security officers roaming the premises.

I believe that security is an issue here. Let's face it, you can't control everything. To a savvy criminal, this would be like shooting fish in a barrel. I don't want to be the one with a bullseye on my head.

Security officers can not be everywhere at all times. They provide very little security in most areas and they do not deter the seasoned criminal. What provides the most security is substantial numbers of people in the area and your own awareness of your surroundings. Everyone really has to look out for their own security. The security officers are best at taking your statement, after the fact.

If I recall correctly, last year the police stopped by frequently, but as Rich said, they cannot be everywhere. Hopefully Greg from Diamond can shed some light on the subject, but obviously it's best to let common sense prevail.

Don't walk around by yourself. Don't get into an elevator by yourself. Don't leave your cues unattended. Don't go out to the parking lot by yourself. If you're there with money, be discreet. If someone you don't know wants to make friends, be leery.

Stick to those rules, and you should drastically reduce the chances of being a victim.

I'm sorry but nobody is saying anything about security. I heard that there was some last year. There were still problems from what I heard. Can anybody verify that there is security this year? I know that they don't guarantee that you won't get robbed, but I see two-bit bars with bouncers. Heck, security is cheap. The fact that they're on the preimses will solve half of the would-be problems immediately. I'm sure most people will take precautions too. I've learned that thieves outsmart normal people. They will always find a way. I'd prefer to have them do a little more work and not have them think that we're easy pickin's.

The best way I can answer this question is to say there are several regular off duty officers being paid to keep an eye on things at the DCC. This is in addition to the regular hotel security. ......There are also regular on duty officers and under cover detectives that come and go at their leasure....... The hotel is in what I would call a good part of town next to the main Louisville airport. But that doesn't mean that something can't happen....I do think that it is important that people keep their whits about them anytime there is cash around.....Let me finish by saying that I have my children and grandchildren running the office collecting and paying out a considerable amount of cash and if I felt they were not safe I'd close the DCC down...Greg/Diamond

Greg,
Thanks for clearing that up. I believe that we all need to keeps our minds about us and things will be alright. I think that the uniformed and non-uniformed agents will keep things in check.
