Default Under valued cues
There are many new cuemakers. Everyone knows and desires certain brands but they are way out of reach price wise for most of us that just want a great playing cue.

Two makers that I have had great result from are Mike Johnson (Jensen Cues) and Bob Owens (Shurtz Cues). Both built great cues are a reasonable price.

Layani makes a good cue but some are turned off by his conical joint being afraid that it might be hard to repair in the future.

All three are very friendly and great guys to work with and have been making cues a long time.

What are other cuemakers have been making cues for at least 15 years with resonable prices for a great cue?

I've been saying the same thing about Mike for years, but my question is - if he is always considered an "undervalued maker" but his retail prices (or the cost to get one direct) are still on par with not being "undervalued", why are his cues always selling for $700-$800 when they should be $900+? Take this into account that the same cue would run $1200+ from Mike.

Bob Frey.
He used to work of Tim Scruggs and makes great cues at very reasonable prices.

I have a Shurtz cue that I bought from Shurtz here in Wichita about a year and a half ago. Since there are many around here, I had a chance to play with a few before I bought mine. I'm very happy with it, and still get compliments on it. Another positive is it's just a short drive down to Shurtz to get supplies, advise, play a few games, or repairs.

I played Bob Owen in a tournament about a year ago. He's a nice guy even though I didn't get any weight for buying one of his cues! Yea, he kicked my butt!

Very true, but his 4 year wait list indicates his cues worth. I have two Olneys and I'd like to mention that Jeff's customer service and concern after the sale is second to none too...Tom

I do want to mention that I recently took delivery on a cocobolo sneaky with a cocobolo joint from Bob. I think, and my friends all agree, that this cue is beautiful to look at but very butt heavy, no doubt from the $35 Smelke blank used. The Ivorex III (?) ferrule attracts and holds chalk just like a McDermott as well. I spent almost $550 on this cue and needless to say I'm very disappointed. My old Meucci sneaky and every Scruggs sneaky I ever hit with were light years better. The balance is so off (far back) on this cue that I just flat can't play with it. It's hard to believe that this man built sneakies for Timmy. Just my .02 cents...Tom

At least 15yrs? I believe that there are many cue makers out there making cues for decades yet aren't able to take their craft to a higher level or can't even make good hitting cues.

There are relatively younger cue makers out there who can make great hitting cues for reasonable prices (for me, anything below $1000 is reasonable especially for great-hitting customs, and anything above $500 production, especially laminated ones, is absurd). There's VIATTORRE (check out customer feedbacks here: Viattorre) whose hit was said to be comparable to known cue makers like Bender & SW. You could already get a simple cue made of exotic wood for $450. Unfortunately, they've decided to retire early. There's also SUGARTREE, BHQ, etc
