Angry Has this ever happened to you?
The buttcap of my cue cracked when i just barely let it bounce. It hit just enough on the hard part. I never knew those things were so brittle. Good news is it will only cost me like 40 to fix it.

It is sad but true, rubber does dry out and become brittle. Hey good thought though....

DOES anyone know if you can put anything on rubber to keep it softer and make it last longer?

it sounds to me like this could be a case of the rubber bumper expanding when it "bouced" off the ground, probably a little harder than you think. this is a pretty common way to crack or explode plastic caps.

You might try a Delrin butt cap - they seem to be more durable.

Well i got it fixed tonight but it cost me 50. The cue repair guy said that Joss and Schon put kinda cheap end on there knowing that it can bust very easily,so they can get some repair work. Anyone else heard that one before?

I would call that a cheap shot and totally untrue. To my knowledge, there is no reputable cuemaker putting out poor workmanship or using inferior materials in an effort to GAIN repair work. I would certainly question the motives of a repair person that would say such a thing.

the rubber bumper dries up on your cue because it is dry in your case.i use a product called "Son of a Gun" similiar to Armorall..but i like this product better..also put it on all leather like your pool table pockets..spray some on a small part of a rag get it nice and wet then apply to the bumper..Son of a gun can be purchsed at almost every hardware, homeware or automotive store..

It was rumored that the Big 3, GM, Ford, and Chrysler used to built cars using the same philosophy to get people to buy new cars more often. It worked. The problem is they started to buy Toyota's and Honda's instead.

Not a good business practice.
