Yesterday, I was messing around with an old cheap cue, the ferrule needed replaced so I started to experiment.. I made a ferrule out of an old screwdriver handle, I thought it was worth a try but after the ferrule and tip was installed, it didnt finish all that well and when I tried it, it actualy played very well, I intended this cue to be a break cue, when I started break with it, after about the 10th SUPER BREAK.. ( I was breaking VERY hard) the ferrule slit side ways under the tip...and pushed down splintering the wood just below the tennon on the actual shaft..
the ferrule was pretty thin (9mm tip size) and short (under 1/2 inch) Im thinking a longer thicker ferrule, may be worth a try..the point was to create a low deflection break cue.. It was low deflection, and played great...I wish now I hadnt abused the thing with MONSTER breaks..
I'll try to get some pics up sometime
Just thought Id share..
