Reeds Win Wraps Up the 2008 Viking Tour Amateur Nationals
Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour Amateur Nationals / Atlanta, GA

The Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour hit Side Pockets Cue Club and Billiards with Matt Reed (pictured right) taking down first place and T.F. Whittington (left) taking secnd place.
The Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour Amateur Nationals wrapped up the September 6-7 weekend crowning Matt Reed as a new champion. Side Pockets Cue Club and Billiards in Marietta, GA, played host to the event, which attracted 91 participants to battle for their share of the $7,215 prize fund.
The event was played on 9-foot tables, and the action continued all weekend long. Though it was Reed who won the event, one of the big stories of the weekend was T.F. Whittington’s fantastic performance as he took second place. Whittington worked his way through the bottom half of the bracket undefeated until the finals, where Reed came back to defeat him 7-4 in the first set and 7-5 in the second. Whittington has been a regular on the Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour for many years, and at 71 years young, he has had hip replacement surgery and overcome other health-related issues but he still has the heart to compete at his highest level and loves the sport of billiards.

Bobby Connor
Reed began his roll in the top of the bracket and went undefeated until the hot seat match. He began by drawing a bye in round one and proceeded to defeat David Lancaster 7-5, Floyd Reasons 7-2, Dustin Byrd 7-3, Eddie Little 7-3 before he was sent to the left side of the chart by Whittington 7-3. Reed then bested James Roberts 7-3 in the semifinals before he came back to defeat Whittington in the finals.
