Williams Comes Back to Win WPBA Qualifier
Tiger Canadian Women’s Pool Tour / Barrie, ON

Naomi Williams landed another title to add to her growing collection.
Naomi Williams took on the Tiger Canadian Women’s Pool Tour field and came out the winner, not just of the title but of the WPBA qualifier as well. Hosted by Dakota Sports Club in Barrie, ON, this event was held September 6-7 and boasted a $1,000-added prize purse, in addition to the qualifier.
Sunday saw the return of six players—Naomi Williams, Denise Belanger, Darlene Gardiner, Sharlene Watkinson, Veronique Menard, and Corrine Johnson. In the hot seat match, Menard edged out Williams, while on the one-loss side, the field grew smaller as Belanger eliminated Johnson and Gardiner ousted Watkinson. When Gardiner and Belanger then collided, it ended with Gardiner advancing to the semifinal match. Although she played well, Williams was on fire and Gardiner just couldn’t compete with Williams’s safeties and 9 ball combos.
In the double-elimination finals, Williams once again brought her A game to the table, leading the match 4-0. Though Menard won the next two games in a row, Williams grabbed the next three with the help of a couple of run-outs and took the first set 7-2. She quickly followed this up by winning the second set 7-3, cementing her victory and the accumulation of the WPBA qualifier.

Brittany Bryant brought home the title from the July 5-6 stop of the Tiger Canadian Women’s 9-Ball Tour. Hosted by Bobby D’s upscale billiard parlor in Burlington, ON, this $500-added event drew in 22 players, who all had their eyes on the top cash prize.
As the quarterfinal match started, so had the hot seat match between Naomi Williams and Veronique Menard. After a tight match, Menard sent Williams to the B-side finals to wait for the winner. Bryant and Kristy De Vries were still busy deciding who would play Williams, as they took games back and forth, but Bryant put an end to it, advancing with a 7-4 win.
This would set up the semifinal match between Williams and Bryant, who had already faced off on the A side, with Williams sending Bryant west after a hard-fought battle. However, this match had a different outcome, and Bryant relegated Williams to third place with a 7-4 score.
The tournament’s final match was Bryant having to win two sets over Menard. In the first set, Bryant was on fire, leading the score 6-4. Then she broke a great shot that targeted a 9 off the break to win her first set. Next, Menard stepped up the plate with strong kick shots and safeties, leading the score 2-1. But the tables turned with a few hangers left by Menard, putting Bryant on the hill 6-3. Menard opted to play safe on the 9 ball, leaving it on the side of the table. Bryant brilliantly banked it in cleanly to win 7-3.

by InsidePOOL Staff
Susan Wipper took the third event of the Tiger Canadian Women’s Pool Tour this season, winning over Veronique Menard in the finals. This stop was hosted by LeSkratch Billiards in Brossard the weekend of May 3-4 and attracted 22 women to compete for the WPBA qualifier spot.
Some of the favorites were sent packing early, leaving the outcome up to new future players Sunday. On the A-side in the final four, Marina Linguerri did not bring her A game, and Wipper sent her to the west side of the chart. In the semifinals, Linguerri faced off with local favorite Menard, who was on a mission during this match and ousted Linguerri in third place.
In the finals, Menard had to defeat Wipper two sets of races to 7. Both women had excellent run-outs, and in the first set, Menard made some great kick shots as well. With Menard winning the first set 7-4, and second set began.
Both ladies battled it out, knotting the score at 4 apiece until Wipper broke the chain and won two more racks to reach the hill. Feeling the pressure, Menard brought the score to double-hill. In the final rack, the match came down to the last four balls, and Menard had a miss on the 6 ball, giving Wipper the match.
