Williams Defends Bigwigs Billiards Title

Tiger Canadian Women’s Pool Tour / Newmarket, ONT

by Carolina Fernandez

Darlene Gardiner and Naomi Williams The weekend of March 17-18 was a busy one at Bigwigs in Newmarket, ONT, with the billiard room hosting 32 players on the Tiger Canadian Women’s Pool Tour. Defending champion Naomi Williams managed to fend off the competition to remain the undefeated winner of this stop.

Sunday saw eight players returning, with Williams remaining undefeated at the A-side finals after a tough challenge against Darlene Gardiner in a hill-hill match. Over on the left side of the chart, the field grew smaller after Susie Wipper defeated Rosechelle Pasamba and Danielle Morris. Jeannine Arsenault bested Jen Dong and Susie Wipper on a hill-hill match to advance to the B-side final match against Gardiner. Determined to earn a rematch, Gardiner played strong and defeated Arsenault 5-2, forcing Arsenault to settle for third place.

In the finals, Williams took a quick 3-0 lead over Gardiner, but her fire is extinguished with a costly 9 ball rattle in the corner. Gardiner took advantage of the situation and put up a score on the board and took the next rack as well. Now, though, it is Gardiner’s turn to err, which led to Williams running out the rack and taking the next frame to make it 5-2 in her favor. Williams put together two more to get to the hill, but Gardiner hung in the match and put up a score herself to make this another hill-hill match. When Gardiner came up dry on her next break, Williams brought the luck of St. Patrick’s Day and made a 3-9 combo to take the match.

Results:
1st Naomi Williams
2nd Darlene Gardiner
3rd Jeannine Arsenault
4th Susie Wipper
5th Danielle Morris
Jen Dong
7th Rosechelle Pasamba
