Canadian Women’s Pool Tour / Billiards News / Brampton, ONT

by Inside POOL Magazine Staff

Naomi WilliamsDangling a WPBA qualifier in front of the 24 women, the Canadian Women’s Pool Tour hosted their fifth stop of the season as Raxx Bar and Grill in Brampton, ONT. With $1,000 added as well, there was no doubt that the cream of the crop was out in force, but Naomi Williams was the one to sweep both prizes. The event was sponsored by not only the host location but Jeff Bell Custom Cues and Tiger Products.

Dorothy Brown, the only player returning Sunday afternoon out of six who was not ranked in the open division, met Terri Mason in the battle for the hot seat. Mason reached a 4-1 lead but then missed the 9 ball. Brown was waiting for a chance to close the gap and did so, but Mason came back to win the final three racks in a row to send her opponent to the one-loss side.

After besting the formidable Rachael Abbink in the quarterfinal match, Williams cruised to the semis against Brown. Her excellent shot-making ability, added to Brown not getting many chances, quickly amounted to a 5-1 lead. It looked as if Brown might have a chance, but when she scratched after almost running out, it was all over, and Williams took the 7-1 win.

The finals were true double elimination, and Williams needed to win both sets. She tried to make short work of the first, running to a quick 4-0 lead, but ended up in a dogfight that she eventually won 7-4. She started out the second set ahead as well with a 3-0 lead and then earned another three racks while only allowing her opponent one win. Now on the hill 6-1, Williams ended up playing a perfect bank shot on the 8 for position on the 9 for a 7-1 victory.

Results:
1st Naomi Williams
2nd Terri Mason
3rd Dorothy Brown
4th Rachael Abbink
5th Grace Nakamura
Maureen Seto
