Adamik Surprises Sookhai for Tri-State Win
Tri-State Tour / Brooklyn, NY
Keith Adamik notched his first victory on the Tri-State Tour, coming through the one-loss side to take down Basdeo Sookhai in the final match. The July 20 tournament featured a $1,500-added prize purse and attracted a field of 38 to Gotham City Billiards in Brooklyn, NY.
In the winners’ side final four, Sookhai took care of Lidio Ramirez 7-4, while in the other bracket, Kim Meyer-Gabia bested Tony Ignomirello by the same score. Moving on to the hot seat match, it was Sookhai triumphing over Meyer-Gabia with an assertive 7-3 win.
A first-round loss to Stewart Warnock moved Adamik to the west side of the chart, where he picked off opponents one by one. He relegated Ramirez to a fifth-place tie 7-6 to move on to the quarterfinals. There he faced off against Bob Toomey, who had just defeated Ignomirello 6-1. Adamik got the upper hand on Toomey and sent him home in fourth place 9-6.
Meyer-Gabia was eager for a rematch with Sookhai and put up a good fight against Adamik in the semifinals, but it wasn’t enough, and Adamik advanced 8-6. Adamik and Sookhai were even in the first few games of the final match, but slowly Adamik pulled away to claim the 9-3 win.
