Davis KO’s Cook on Great Southern Tour
Great Southern Billiard Tour / Charleston, SC
Brian Davis double-dipped Dave Cook in the finals of the Great Southern Billiard Tour’s June 22-23 stop to take the title. A large field of 83 gathered at Players Place in Charleston, SC, for the $2,500-added tournament, which was sponsored by Hustlers Pool League proprietor Del Laquiere.
Davis first faced off against Michael Basha in the winners’ side final four, besting the local 7-6 to advance. In the top half of the bracket, Cook delivered Bruce Lutrell to the one-loss side of the charts 9-5. Cook then dealt Davis his only loss of the tournament 9-5 to claim the hot seat.
After a close win over Russ Padgett, Trent Talbert went on to eliminate Basha in fifth place 7-4. Eddie Hudak scored a 9-6 victory over Russell Scott but then was whitewashed by Lutrell 7-0 and ended up in fifth place. Lutrell then took care of Talbert in the quarterfinals with a 7-3 win.
Wanting a rematch with Cook, Davis ousted Lutrell in third place in the semifinal match. In the double-elimination finals, Davis scored a 7-8 win in the first set and a 7-6 in the second to take first place.
