Guzman Goes Through Tri-State Billiards Field

Juan Guzman sailed unchallenged through the field at the Tri-State Tour’s April 20 stop, ultimately winning 7-6 over Paul Bramwell in the final match. The $1,000-added tournament was hosted by Cue Bar in Bayside, NY, and drew a field of 44 A-D players.
Guzman and Bramwell first met on the winners’ side final four, where Guzman dealt Bramwell his first defeat of the event 7-5. In the other winners’ side match, Bob Toomey and Rene Villalobos fought to move on, with Toomey taking the win 6-1. Guzman then claimed the hot seat match over Toomey 8-6.
Steathily moving through the west side of the chart, Bramwell sent Geoffe Bauer home in a fifth-place tie 7-5, as Kyle Bubet tied with Bauer after his match with Villalobos ended 6-5. Bramwell went on to face down Villalobos in the quarterfinals, winning 7-4.
Still going strong, Bramwell next challenged Toomey in the semifinals and sent him home in third place 7-4. In the final match, Bramwell took a strong 6-1 lead, but Guzman was able to not only tie things up but move past Bramwell to take the win 7-6.
