Khan Collects Tri-State Billiard Victory
Tri-State Tour / Bayside, NY
Carl Yusuf Khan blazed a trail through the field at the September 15 installment of the Tri-State Tour, going undefeated to best Thomas Rice in the finals hill-hill. The A/D-player 9-ball tournament drew 29 players to Cue Bar in Bayside, NY, to vie for their share of the $1,000-added purse.
It was a narrow escape for Khan in the winners’ side final four, as he eked past Juan Guzman 7-6 to reach the hot seat match. Meeting him there was Rice, who had just delivered Tom Riley to the west side of the chart 7-5. Khan didn’t hold back and bested Rice 9-5 to reach the finals unchallenged.
Guzman quickly rallied on the one-loss side to oust Koka Davladze in seventh place in a double-hill match 7-6. Tying with Davladze was Robert Veit, who suffered his second loss to Riley 6-4. In the quarterfinal match, it was all Riley, who relegated Guzman to fourth place with a 7-4 win.
Riley soon followed Guzman out the door, though, as Rice dominated their semifinal match 7-2. In the final match, it was a hill-hill nail-biter, but ultimately Khan cashed in on the win 9-8.
