DaBreo Dispatches Culhane for Billiard Title

Raphael DaBrea easily trumped Ed Culhane at the August 11 installment of the Tri-State Tour in the finals, winning the title 7-3. There was a 35-player field that gathered at Castle Billiards in East Rutherford, NJ, for the $500-added 9-ball tournament.
Culhane and DaBreo first faced off in the winners’ side final four, where DaBreo gave Culhane a preview of the finals with a 7-4 victory. In the other winners’ side match, Sam Hoffman bested Dave Danchak 6-2. DaBreo went on to send Hoffman to the one-loss side 10-7 in the match for the hot seat.
Fighting to stay alive, Culhane eliminated Naldo Trancoso in fifth place 8-5, as Danchak tied with Trancoso after his match with Mike Aro ended in Aro’s favor 6-3. Culhane and Aro fought in the quarterfinal match, with Culhane progressing after his 9-6 win.
Hoffman and Culhane collided in the next round as only one could go on to challenge DaBreo in the finals. Culhane came out the winner 11-8, sending Hoffman home in third place, but DaBreo got the better of Culhane in the final match, winning top honors 7-3.
