As the North American representative to the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA), the Billiard Congress of America is responsible for maintaining a points system designed to rank American players according to their performance in American tournaments. The ranking is then used for inviting American players to compete in WPA sanctioned world championship events.

In order for tournaments to be designated as a BCA point-ranking event they must meet or exceed a predetermined set of requirements and must request such designation from the Billiard Congress of America’s WPA Committee. At this time, neither the ABP nor the World Tournament of 14.1 promoters have requested from the BCA’s WPA committee to become a BCA point-ranking event.
