Duos and Singles Start and 9-Ball Wraps Up Heading into Day 3 & 4 of the BCAPL Nationals

Rolling into day 3 of the 35th BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships at the Riviera Hotel & Casino, the 8-Ball Scotch Doubles divisions started Friday, May 13 with great participation. The Open Scotch Doubles boasted a field of 338 coed teams, while the Master Scotch Doubles drew a field of 71 teams. In an interesting turnout, the winner side hot seat matches in both divisions feature match ups between teams from the same state.

In the Master Scotch division, the Wisconsin team of Robert Hovick and Kelly Birmingham defeated fellow Wisconsinites Don Maier and Jolene Herum for the driver’s seat. Four teams remain on the b-side. In the Open Division, 24 teams remain. Jesse Renteria and Bernie Store of Mesa, Arizona are set to face “Easy Money” Paradowski and Lois Schmit from Tucson, Arizona for the a-side finals. 8-ball, 9-ball, and scotch doubles mini tournaments have been running all night in preparation for the arrival of all the singles players.

With 11 total divisions, the BCAPL 8-Ball Singles events started this morning (Saturday, May 14th) and introduced two new divisions, men’s advanced singles and women’s advanced singles. The divisions include 1328 players in the Men’s Open, 189 in the Men’s Super Senior, 112 in the Women’s Senior, 385 in the Women’s Open, 283 in the Men’s Senior, 100 in the Men’s Advanced, 45 in the Men’s Master, 27 in the Men’s Grand Master, 26 in the Women’s Master, 39 in the Women’s Advanced and 10 in the Women’s Grand Master divisions. The Scotch Doubles will continue play Sunday, May 15th.

Wrapping up the 9-Ball events, the 9-Ball Men’s Open Singles champion was crowned late Friday. Michael Miller from West Easton, Pennsylvania defeated Jordan Grubb of Detroit, Michigan in a swift two-set final score of 5-2, 5-0.
