Pagulayan Cashes in Bar Table 10-Ball
U.S. Bar Table Championships / Reno, NV
Alex “The Lion” Pagulayan ultimately triumphed over Canada’s John Morra in the double-elimination finals of the U.S. Bar Table Championships’ 10-ball division, winning the $4,400 first-place prize.
Pagulayan, who started off 2011 with a bang, winning the banks division at the Derby City Classic and then taking the West Coast’s Jay Swanson Memorial Tournament, cruised undefeated to the hot seat, besting San Diego’s Louis Ulrich there 7-4. On the one-loss side Morra was waiting, and he sprang past Ulrich 7-4 to reach Pagulayan in the finals.
Morra played gamely in the first set, besting Pagulayan in the close race 7-5. But in the second set it was all Pagulayan, as he kept Morra in the chair for most of the time as he raced to a 7-0 victory.
In the 23-entrant, single-elimination women’s 9-ball division, it has come down to Brittany Bryant and Vivian Villareal again as they face off for the hot seat. Bryant has eliminated Bonnie Plowman 7-6, Rebecca Douglas 7-1, and Melissa Little 7-3, while Villareal has ousted Sunny Griffin 7-3 and Ces Ralston 7-4.
The $6,000-added men’s 9-ball division kicked off Wednesday afternoon with 128 players. Pagulayan is also playing in this division and will hope to capture the all-around title as well.

2nd John Morra $2,500
3rd Louis Ulrich $1,600
