Eight Undefeated at WPBA Masters
WPBA Masters / Mount Pleasant, MI
The WPBA Masters event has narrowed down to its final eight undefeated players, with eight fighting it out on the one-loss side as well. This inaugural event is hosted by the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort in Mount Pleasant, MI, January 6-9.
Top-ranked player on the WPBA, Ga Young Kim is still going strong, besting Nicole Keeney 9-2 in the previous round. Her next opponent will be Ewa “The Striking Viking” Laurance, who just routed Jeanette Lee 9-1. The winner of their match will advance to meet either Karen Corr or Tamara Rademakers. Corr escaped Line Kjorsvik in the previous round, while Rademakers defeated Kim White 9-6.
Nipping at Young’s heels in the rankings, though, is Jasmin Ouschan, who dealt Julie Kelly a 9-5 defeat and will advance to play Monica Webb, who just defeated Jennifer Barretta 9-4. The winner of that match will go on to face the winner of the Allison Fisher / Kelly Fisher match. Allison defeated Helena Thornfeldt 9-6, while Kelly delivered Sarah Rousey to the one-loss side 9-3.
On the one-loss side, Lee rebounded from her defeat by besting Naomi Williams 9-6 and will next play Nicole Keeney, who eliminated Maureen Seto 9-5 earlier. Kim White and Line Kjorsvik will face off in the next round—White ousted Jennifer Chen in a hill-hill match, while Kjorsvik defeated Emily Duddy 9-5.
Jennifer Barretta sent Laura Smith home 9-4 to advance to the next round, where she will play Julie Kelly, who survived a tight 9-7 match with Liz Ford. And Sarah Rousey and Helena Thornfeldt will face off in the last one-loss-side match. Rouse eked out a 9-8 victory over Cathy Metzinger, and Thornfeldt won 9-3 over Eleanor Callado.
