Derby City Classic Banks Progress
Derby City Classic / Elizabeth, IN
The Derby City Classic 9-ball banks division, which began January 21, progressed Saturday, leaving behind some players while others remained undefeated. The banks event boasts a $10,000-added prize purse and began with a field of 386.
Defending champion John Brumback remains untouched, having bested Tommy Stephenson and then Scooby Pelton in Saturday’s rounds. Hall of Famers Buddy Hall, Francisco Bustamante, Allen Hopkins, and Earl Strickland are also making a good show by remaining undefeated. Dennis Wilson Jr. did not have such a good day: In the second round he was bested by Bustamante, and after he bought back into the third round, Strickland ousted him.
Former banks champion Stevie Moore bested Badi Nazhat and then Danny Morgan, going into the third day undefeated. Shannon Daulton breezed through the first part of the day with a win over Adrian Link and but then suffered a loss to Jeremy Slye.
Louis D’Marco lost his second-round match to Dennis Orcollo but rebounded in the third round by besting Eric Moore. Lee Van Corteza is still undefeated, having won matches with Kenny Weatherly and Dexter Audain, while fellow countryman Jose Parica bested Steve Guittar and Dana Perry.
