Derby City Banks on Hold, One-Pocket Keeps Moving
Derby City Classic / Elizabeth, IN
The 9-ball banks division of the 13th Annual Derby City Classic has been placed on temporary hold, as the one-pocket event gets underway in earnest. The banks semifinal and final matches were meant to be the evening of January 24; however; but there are too many players to finish then, and the One-Pocket Hall of Fame banquet is the following evening, as is the $10,000-added Fatboy Challenge. At this time it is thought that the banks finals will take place January 26, with the one-pocket finishing up January 27.
In the ninth round of the banks event, only two players remain without any losses. Francisco Bustamante, the most recent BCA Hall of Fame inductee, survived the ninth round unscathed, eliminating Brandon Shuff from the event. Fellow countryman Ronato Alcano also is undefeated and just ousted Jason Hunt from further participation.
After an eighth-round loss to Sylver Ochoa, defending champion John Brumback is still alive, having just eliminated Michael Hughes. Shannon “The Cannon” Daulton also has one buy-back and survived his match with Larry Nevel, who already used his buy-back earlier.
Jeremy Jones sent Dennis Orcollo packing, while Dee Adkins did the same to Mike Grooms. Justin Hall eliminated Tim Heath, and Tommy Tokoph had a bye. This leaves seven players remaining going into Round Ten.
The one-pocket division continues with Round 2 beginning Monday evening. A few featured match-ups include Karen Corr versus Huidji See, Mike Dechaine versus Rafael Martinez, Max Eberle versus Jose Parica, Allen Hopkins versus Shaun Wilkie, Jeremy Jones versus Harry Platis, Alex Pagulayan versus Buddy Hall, Brandon Shuff versus Ralf Souquet, and Chris Szuter versus Charlie Williams.
