One of the top foreign favorites “Sugar” Shane Van Boening from the USA also fell this evening. The former World 10-Ball Champion and US Open Champion fell to unseeded John Morra of Canada. Morra had just played in last week’s World Cup but lost terribly in the doubles. He is making up for it now in the singles. He defeated Shane easily by an 8-4 score.

“I played very good that match. Shane missed more balls than I’m used to seeing him, but I missed only one open shot. I’m taking my career alot more serious now and putting more time into preparation instead of partying”, explained the 22 year old Morra after his win.

John Morra, one of the bright potentials in North American talent, is present.

Shane’s fellow American players fared well with Rodney Morris defeating Filipino V. Arpilleda 8-4, Charlie Williams defeated Filipino R.Cuna 8-7, and Corey Deuel defeated Qatar’s Mohd A. Bin Ali.

In other matches, Efren “Bata” Reyes won a tough, but expected 8-6 win over D. Pulpul. World #1 Mika Immonen got over a stomach virus just in time to collect a win over Pinoy J. Limen. Recent Predator Sweet 16 winner Lee Vann Corteza easily won his match to advance as well. Defending Champion of the event Dennis Orcullo also passed through his first match.

Players will be eliminated tomorrow on Day 2 with televised matches on ABS-CBN and ESPN Star.
2pm will be Philippines vs Japan in Antonio Lining vs T. Yoshiyuki. Then a feature match-up with Efren Reyes vs Ronnis Alcano, both former World Champions.
