Nandrasy Nabs OB Cues Billiards Title
OB Cues Ladies’ 9-Ball Tour / Austin, TX
Ashley Nandrasy won her first OB Cues Ladies’ 9-Ball Tour stop the weekend of April 17-18, defeating Jennifer Kraber in the final set. This was the tour’s third stop of the year, which was hosted by Fast Eddie’s Billiards in Austin, TX. Forty-seven players were in attendance for the $2,000-added event.
Finishing in a ninth-place tie were Lisa Henderson-Major, Melinda Bailey, Sue Chong, and Helen Laiche. The next round of B-side matches pitted perennial favorites Amanda Lampert against Lisa Marr and Deanna Kniola against Orietta Strickland. Marr came out ahead against Lampert 7-1, while Strickland squeaked by Kniola 7-6. Marr had her tournament closed out next round by Alicia Stanley to finish fifth, and she was joined by Julie Stephenson, as Strickland continued her run in the main event. Strickland continued by benching Stanley with a 7-4 finish to leave Stanley in fourth place. Local favorite Jennifer Kraber managed to stop Strickland’s run to the finals in a hill-hill nail-biter to send her home with a third-place finish.
In the finals, Kraber and Nandrasy were both trying to win their first OB Cues Ladies’ event. In the true double-elimination format, Kraber would have had to best Nandrasy twice to take the title. It appeared that Kraber was going to run away with the first set, as she had Nandrasy down 5-0, but they grinded out the match with Kraber winning the first set 7-5. In the second set, Nandrasy battled back from a 5-2 deficit and managed to get to the hill first before Kraber tied it up 6-6 to force one game for all the marbles. Nerves appeared to get the better of both players as neither took charge of the final game, but in the end, Nandrasy pocketed the key 9 ball to take her first win. Results:
