Williams Wins AWBT Season Opener

Susan Williams took home the title from the Arizona Women’s Billiard Tour’s first event of 2010, winning in the final match over Sara Miller. The $300-added stop was hosted by Bullshooters in Phoenix, AZ, where 16 players came out to participate during the April 17-18 weekend.

The top eight players came down to Edwidge Cavanna, Jeri Engh, Ashea Erdahl, Sunny Griffin, Kathleen Lawless, Sara Miller, Pat Schultz, and Susan Williams. Williams and Miller ended up squaring off in the match for the hot seat, which saw Williams send Miller to the one-loss side of the chart 7-4.

Miller went on to face Erdahl in the semifinal match and triumphed hill-hill, coming back to challenge Williams in the finals. In the true double-elimination finals, Miller would have had to defeat Williams twice to win. Though Miller reached the hill first 6-5, Williams took the next rack to make it a hill-hill affair. In the last rack Miller missed a thin cut on the 8 ball, which left Williams with a long 8 ball shot with the 9 ball at the other end of the table. She made the 8 ball with ease and left herself perfectly for the 9 ball and won the match 7-6.
