Steve Thomas went undefeated through the final match to take first place at the October 3 installment of the Tri-State Tour. The event, which featured a $750-added purse, was hosted by Sandcastle Billiards in Edison, NJ, and attracted a field of 36.

After besting Sandi Paterino 6-3, Thomas advanced to the hot seat match for his first meeting with Ben Sadowski, who was just off a hill-hill victory over Robert Perkins. It was a close match, but Thomas edged ahead to win 7-5, sending Sadowski to the one-loss side.

Borana Andoni was busily working her way through the west side of the chart, ousting James DiLillo 7-5 and then Dave Fitzpatrick 7-5 to reach Perkins. Unimpressed, she eliminated Perkins 7-5 to advance to the quarterfinal match, while Paterino sent Leo Liu home in a fifth-place tie with Perkins, defeating him 7-5.

The ensuing quarterfinal match saw the determined Andoni sweep Paterino 7-4 into the semifinals against Sadowski. But Sadowski was looking for a rematch against Thomas in the final match and, despite Andoni’s persistence, sent her home in third place 7-5. However, once reunited with Thomas, Sadowski was foxed. They traded the first four racks, but Thomas pulled away after that, and it wasn’t long before he took the match 7-5.
