Tri-State Tour / Parsippany, NJ
Christian Smith worked his way through the one-loss side of the chart at the Tri-State Tour’s September 12 stop, defeating Annie Flores in the finals to take top honors. This B-D event was hosted by Comet Billiards in Parsippany, NJ, and featured 37 players vying for the $500-added prize fund.
Flores went undefeated through to the final match, besting Briana Miller 7-5 in the winners’ side final four to reach the hot seat match. Her opponent was Rick Shellhouse, who had just sent Joe Fego west with an 8-5 score. The hot seat match was no contest, as Flores triumphed 7-3 to advance to the finals.
Meanwhile, Smith was ousting everyone in his path, including Phil Carr 7-4 and Roger Hanos 7-2. He then eliminated Fego in fifth place 7-3 and advanced to the quarterfinals, where he sent Scott Simonetti home after a hill-hill bout. It didn’t look good for Smith in the semifinals, for his opponent, Shellhouse, raced to a 7-2 lead. But that didn’t faze Smith, for he caught a gear and won the next seven racks in a row to win the match 9-7. The momentum kept him going, for he was able to handily defeat Flores 9-3 in the final match.
