Arizona Women’s Billiard Tour / Phoenix, AZ

Angel Paglia, who missed last month’s Women’s World 10-Ball Championships in the Philippines because of dehydration and heat exhaustion, was in top form as she made her way through the one-loss side of the fourth stop of the Arizona Women’s Billiard Tour the weekend of June 13-14. The $300-added event drew 18 ladies to Bullshooters in Phoenix, AZ.

Paglia started off Saturday by facing off with tour-points leader Stacy Novack. Paglia quickly got up 3-0, and though she made no mistakes after that, bad luck with her breaks and extremely strong play by Novack kept her there as Novack won seven straight.
While Paglia then made her way steadily through the one-loss side, the final four of the winners’ side were coming through. Heather Torpin sent Susan Wilbur west 7-3, while Ashea Erdahl came out on top of a hill-hill battle with Darlene Stinson. Erdahl then made it to the hill against Torpin in the match for the hot seat, but this time came up short.

Over on the one-loss side, Paglia had her own hill-hill match, putting Susan Williams in seventh and backing it up with a strong 7-1 win over Wilbur. Next up was a rematch with Novack, who was coming off of back-to-back shut-out wins over Cheryl Walters and Stinson, and Paglia was more than ready, allowing Novack to mark up only one game in the race to 7.

She allowed Erdahl more games in the one-loss semifinal match, but four wasn’t enough to keep Paglia from the finals, where she was not as generous. In the first set of the true double-elimination finals, Paglia missed only one shot and didn’t allow Torpin a single game. The second set featured more great play, and Paglia closed out her first-place finish with a 7-2 win.
