by Skip Maloney
Ben Sadowski clawed his way back from an early defeat and then go on to wrest the first-place prize away from the man in the hot seat, Mike Polizzi. The $500-added, C-D handicapped event drew 38 players to Comet Billiards in Parsippany, NJ.
Brennan and Polizzi had respectively sent George Osipovitch and Ryan McCarthy to the one-loss side to square off against each other in the hot seat match. Polizzi sent Brennan to the semifinals with a 6-3 win and waited for what would turn out to be his eventual demise at the hands of Sadowski.
Osipovitch and Sadowski advanced to the quarterfinals with identical 6-2 wins over McCarthy and Jason Egeln and then squared off in the match that put Sadowski in a position to avenge his earlier defeat by Pete Brennan in the semifinals.
Sadowski got his chance, defeating Osipovitch 6-3 and then taking advantage of that chance with a strong 6-1 victory over Brennan to get into the finals versus Polizzi. An early, slim lead of 3-1 for Polizzi turned into a rout, as Sadowski stopped him right there, winning seven in a row to take top honors.
