Darian Trujillo took down the Denver Spring 8-Ball Open March 21, which was a Pechauer All-American Tour event. Hosted by Greenfields Pool and Sports Bar in Lakewood, CO, this $1,000 added tournament featured 25 players in a double-elimination format on 7-foot bar boxes.
Trujillo edged Greg Way in the A-side finals by a 5-4 margin to gain the hot seat. Previously, in the A-side semifinals, Way fended off Frank Urbaniak 5-4, while Trujillo turned back James Brothers 5-2.
The B-side showcased Larry Romero eliminating Ruben Silva at seventh place by a 5-4 margin, while Nick Smith suffered the same fate at the hands of Nick Smith (Colorado Springs, CO) 1-5. 5th place spots were filled by James Brothers losing out to Nick Smith 3-5, and Larry Romero falling to Frank Urbaniak 1-5. Nick Smith then kicked into a higher gear to stop Frank Urbaniak’s march at 4th place by a 5-3 margin, and Greg Way’s run at 3rd place, 5-1. Once-defeated Nick Smith had to defeat the undefeated Darian Trujillo for the crown, and Nick took down the first set of the tourney finals, 5-1; but Trujillo recovered well enough to win the deciding set of the deciding set 5-4 for the tour stop win!
