Lucky Seven for Hatch on Joss Tour
Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour / Clifton Park, NY
by Skip Maloney
Dennis Hatch made it seven in a row on the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour, double-dipping tour director Mike Zuglan in the process. The $2,000-added event, held the weekend of March 14-15, drew 34 entrants to trick shot Billiards in Clifton Park, NY.
Working from among the winners’ side final four, Hatch started his drive to the finish with a commanding 9-1 victory over Zuglan. Craig Antonakos, in the meantime, was sending Reggie Cutler west 9-3. Hatch gained the hot seat with a 9-4 win over Antonakos.
Over on the one-loss side, Bucky Souvanthong and Norm Pomainville were there to meet Zuglan and Cutler. Souvanthong had given up only two racks in two matches versus Steve Lillis and Angelo Hilton before meeting Zuglan. Pomainville got by Jeff Smolen and Jason Michas to square off against Cutler. Two hill-hill matches ensued, with Zuglan and Pomainville advancing to the quarterfinals. Zuglan then dropped Pomainville into fourth place 9-5 and moved into the semifinals versus Antonakos.
A 9-6 win over Antonakos put Zuglan into the finals against Hatch. The two battled back and forth in the early stages of that final match, until Hatch pulled ahead and stayed ahead, winning 9-6 and taking home first place for the seventh consecutive time on the tour.
