National Championship Series 8-Ball Championship Begins
CueSports International is putting on their first National Championship Series 8-Ball Championship event, beginning Friday, February 13. This inaugural event is being hosted by the Golden Nugget Hotel in Las Vegas, NV, and will conclude this Sunday evening.
Of the available 64 spots, 56 players showed up to compete. Notable names include Josh Ulrich. Mike Davis, Sal Butera, Joey Gray, Mitch Ellerman, Oscar Dominuuez, Max Eberle, Bobby Hunter, Ike Runnels, Mark Haddad, Brandon Shuff, Jui-Lung Chen, Melissa Little, and Amy Chen.
To participate, each player had to win a qualifier first, which earned them a free entry into the tournament. With each entry worth $500, that brings the prize fund to $28,000. First place will earn $5,700 and a qualifying spot in the WPA World Championships in April. Of the $5,700, the winner will retain $2,700 in cash, while the balance will go toward expenses for the WPA event. Second place earns $4,500 in cash, and places are paid out to 24th.
The format is a race to 8, double elimination. The finals will be a single race to 13 and are scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday.
