Trevor Braymore shut down Richie Richeson at the KF Cues Open 9-Ball Tour stop February 21 to earn the first-place prize. The $1,000-added event drew 31 entrants to Stroker’s II Billiards in Tampa, FL.
Braymore reached the hot seat match with a 7-5 win over Jason Richko, while Richeson was dispatching Josh Degler west 7-3. Braymore then gained the hot seat with his first victory over Richeson 7-3.
Over on the one-loss side, Julio Aquino, who had been Richeson’s first shut-out victim in the opening round of play, was battling back through what would be eight opponents to face Richeson a second time in the semifinals. He got by Han Berber in a hill-hill struggle and defeated Neil Fujiwara 7-5 for the right to meet Richko. Josh Lewis, in the meantime, defeated Jim Sandaler 7-5 and Dave Ross 7-4 to take on Degler. Aquino breezed by Richko 7-3, as Degler dropped Lewis into the tie for fifth place 7-4. Aquino then repeated his effort against Richko with a 7-3 win over Degler in the quarterfinals that gave him his redemption shot against Richeson.
Richeson made it two in a row against Aquino with a 7-3 win and turned to face Braymore in the finals. A nip-and-tuck match in the early going brought things to a 5-5 tie before Braymore employed some key safety shots and won the final four games to earn top honors.
