Dominiak Cues Northeast Tour / Springfield, MA
Tom Acciavatti took down the third stop of the new Dominiak Cues Northeast Amateur 10-Ball Tour. Held February 22 at Snookers Billiards in Springfield, MA, the event saw the arrival of 24 players from throughout the Northeast, despite blizzard warnings, to vie for the $500-added purse and prizes.
Dana Kroll made his way through top half of the winners’ bracket with steady shot-making and good decisions. On the bottom half it was Tim Hurley playing steadily to earn the right to meet Kroll in the hot seat match. It was a tough battle, but in the end Kroll pulled it out.
New York’s Acciavatti, who had lost an early round match, was making his way through the B-side of the chart. Along the way he sent home Rob Francoeur, Mike Wheeler, Russ Manley, Tony Hubbard, Fred Agnir, and Kevin Blackstock before he and Kroll battled it out in the semifinals. In the end Acciavatti’s experience showed through, and Kroll settled for a respectable third-place finish.
In the race-to-5 finals, Acciavatti jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with some strong shot-making and brilliant safety play. The winner-breaks format saw Acciavatti crush the break in the fourth rack, and the 10 ball headed straight into the corner. A scratch by Acciavatti allowed Hurley a rack to make it 4-1, but Hurley was unable to capitalize after a safety battle in the final rack. Acciavatti got the opening he needed to take home the title and new Dominiak cue.
