Foster and Chirino Claim KF Cues Stop
KF Cues 9-Ball Tour / Miami, FL

John Foster withstood a late challenge from John Rouse and came back to win the KF Cues Open 9-Ball Tour stop the weekend of January 10-11. The $1,000-added open event drew 32 players, while a concurrent $700-added amateur event, held Sunday and won by Javier Chirino, drew 26. The event was hosted by Doral Billiards in Miami, FL.

Foster and Rouse faced each other first in the hot seat match, after Foster had sent Curtis Kelley west and Rouse sent Anthony Meglino to join him. Foster gained the hot seat with a 9-5 win and waited for Rouse to come back.

It was Raul Alvarez waiting for Meglino on the one-loss side after identical 7-5 wins over John DiToro and Richard Broumpton. Julio Aquino, who defeated Hunter Lombardo 7-2 and survived a hill-hill struggle against David Uwate, was awaiting Kelley. Two double-hill battles followed that dropped Alvarez and Aquino into the tie for fifth place and sent Meglino and Kelley into the quarterfinals. Meglino advanced to the semifinals against Rouse with a 7-5 win.

Rouse got out in front and reached the hill at 6-2 in the semifinals before Meglino rallied to tie it. Meglino gave up the final game and Rouse moved back for a second chance at Foster. Having agreed, due to time considerations, to make the finals a single race to 7, Foster jumped out to a 5-2 lead. Rouse responded to first tie it at 5 and then reach the hill first. But Foster came right back to take the first-place prize.

In the amateur event, Chirino defeated 14-year-old Danny Satinoss 9-4 in the finals. Chirino had stepped out to a commanding 5-1 lead in the race to 9, before Satinoss pulled off a string of three racks to get within one at 5-4. It was as close as he got. Chirino took the final four and won it.
