Holiday Inn, Springfield, Ohio, January 8-11
Bad Boys Billiard Productions, in conjunction with Chris Williams, the Central Ohio BCA League Operator, created the 2009 BCAPL Springfield Shootout to give nearby players the opportunity to compete in a big style BCAPL tournament without traveling long distances to a Regional or to the BCAPL Nationals in Las Vegas.
Ice storms and freezing temperatures couldn’t deter the 64 men’s singles – from as far afield as West Virginia and Windsor, Ontario – 9 women’s singles, and 42 teams in the Open Teams division.

Bad Boys’ Ric Jones braved ice covered roads to deliver and install the (24) 7 foot Diamond Smart Tables covered in Simonis 860 Tournament Blue cloth with Red Circle Cue balls and Super Aramith Pro balls.
Three divisions – Open Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, and Open Teams – vied for $6,750 in cash. In the Men’s Open, Dayton’s Lucas Hawkins not only upset the more experienced Shayne Morrow, but scorched the field unscathed without even losing a set. West Virginia’s Christina Holmes double dipped Beth Kimbelton to take the Ladies Singles title.
In the Open Team, Toledo’s Still Smokin’ seemed unstoppable beating a few favorites such as Sportsmen’s Timmons, Smoking Chicos, and others as they swept to the hot seat.
Meanwhile, undeterred, Sportsmen’s Timmons rallied through the loser’s bracket to converge with the still smokin’ Still Smokin. Sportsmen’s Timmons doused the fire and easily won the first set. Not burnt out yet, Still Smokin’ took the second set to hill-hill which resulted in each team putting up their best player to lag for the break in a nailbiter decider. Sportsmen’s Timmons and local Columbus hero, Dee Adkins, defeated Tim Roberts for the decisive win.
Vendors D&D Cue Repair kept the cues in tip top shape while Old Time Billiards Supply offered the latest in pool products.
The success of this event, weather and all, plus the luxury of the welcoming Holiday Inn hot tub and huge bar with really reasonable food and beer prices, have Bad Boys and the BCAPL’s Chris Williams scheduling next year as we speak. Stay tuned to Centralohiobca.com or Playusapool.com for info and for additional BCAPL events near you.
Incidentally, Chris Williams has initiated the all new USA Pool League in Ohio and will inaugurate the first week of league play on January 19th.
