Grau Wins Third CNY 9-Ball Tour Stop
Central New York 9-Ball Tour / Fairmont, NY
by Skip Maloney
Dave Grau made it three out of four on the Central New York 9-Ball Tour with an undefeated weekend on December 13-14. Grau worked his way through a field of 39 players, defeating Ed Yero in the finals of the $340-added, A-B handicapped event at Korky’s Billiards in Fairmont, NY.
Grau first met Yero among the final four on the winners’ side, sending Yero over 9-3. Paul Enslin, in the meantime, defeated Dwight Dixon 7-5. Grau, an A++ player, gained the hot seat over Dixon, an A player, with a 9-2 victory.
On the one-loss side, it was Jared Zimmerman and Jose Mendez waiting for Dixon and Yero. Zimmerman had dropped Dave Peacock 7-2 into the last money slot, as Mendez handled Dave Ricci 8-6. Dixon and Yero dropped Zimmerman and Mendez into the tie for fifth place and, equally matched with an A handicap, faced each other in the quarterfinals. Yero advanced to the semifinals versus Enslin on the heels of a hill-hill win over Dixon.
Yero and Enslin were also evenly matched with A handicaps, but it was Yero moving on to the finals with a 7-5 win. With Grau sporting an A++ handicap, Yero started the match up by two games. He’d win three, but not before Grau reached 9, capturing his third first-place finish out of four stops to date on the CNY Tour.
