Wathen Walks Away With KBP Amateur Event
KBP Amateur 9-Ball Tour / Largo, FL

Mark Wathen hauled in the title at the KBP Amateur billiards event in Largo, FL.

Mark Wathen came back from a hot seat defeat at the hands of Bobby Livagro to take first place in the KBP Amateur 9-Ball event the weekend of November 1-2. The $500-added event drew 23 entrants to The Corner Pocket in Largo, FL.

Wathen started his final drive to victory in the event with a 7-3 win over Mike Zoravedian among the winners’ side final four. Livagro, in the meantime, was sending Casey Merrell west with a 7-2 victory. Livagro duplicated that score in the hot seat match, which sent Wathen to the semifinals.

It was Jon Curtis and Jason Bowen waiting for Zoravedian and Merrell. Curtis had defeated Bill Stroup in a hill-hill struggle and Van Phan 5-3 to get there. Bowen had dropped Jimmy Hines into a ninth-place tie and Ted Porter into seventh place for his shot at Merrell. Curtis got past Zoravedian, but it was Merrell advancing to the quarterfinals over Bowen. Curtis and Merrell locked up in a double-hill battle that saw Curtis advancing to take on a determined Wathen in the semifinals.

Wathen dropped Curtis into third place and got his second shot at Livagro. He made the best of it, defeating Livagro 9-4 and capturing the first-place prize.
