Scott Lewis fought his way back through the one-loss side to meet and defeat Russell Sasser in the finals of the Great Southern Billiard Tour’s amateur stop the weekend of November 15-16. The $2000-added event, hosted by Speakeazy Billiards in Sanford, NC, drew 66 entrants.
From among the winners’ side final four, Sasser reached the hot seat match with an 8-2 victory over Shawn Ray and an 8-2 win over Glenn Russell. Russell had shut out Eddie Little for the right to meet Sasser in the hot seat match.
On the one-loss side, Lewis worked his way through Joe Williams 8-2 and Tony Morrison 8-4, to take on Ray, as Larry Faulk defeated Sandy Odom 8-4 and John Haefka 8-2 to face Little. It was Little and Lewis advancing to the quarterfinals, where Lewis dropped Little into fourth place to face Russell in the semifinals. Lewis won that match 8-4 and turned his attention to the double-elimination finals against Sasser.
Lewis forced a second set with an 8-2 victory in the opener. He completed his trip to the top slot with a second set 8-3 win, spoiling Sasser’s bid.
