Bryant is still going strong in both the 10-ball and one-pocket events at the Great Southern Billiard Tour Player's Championship

Saturday at the Great Southern Billiard Tour’s Players Championship has drawn to a close with some surprise storylines unfolding.  Underdogs went undefeated and favorites dropped by the wayside. The 10-Ball Division has come down to four players with Shane Van Boening and Charlie “Hillbilly” Bryant on the one loss side and Shannon “The Cannon” Daulton playing Jonathan “Hennessee” Pinegar.  The one-pocket division is down to four players on the winner’s side, Gabe Owen against Charlie Bryant and Barry Rogers pitted against Nick Varner.  The one loss side of the one pocket division is down to three players, Leonardo Andam playing Tony “T-Rex” Chohan, and John Morra waiting to play the winner of that match.

Although many important matches took place the one that still lingered and stood out in everyone’s mind was in the 10-Ball division with Charlie “Hillbilly” Bryant vs. Beau Runningen. The match went back and forth with few but critical mistakes made by both players allowing the match to go hill-hill. Charlie had the break in the last rack and was left with a difficult out. After playing a safe on the two ball Hillbilly left himself with many difficult positions but managed to get out for the win and advance to play Shane Van Boening. The winner of this match will advance to play the loser Shannon “The Cannon” Daulton.

In the one pocket division, Barry Rogers, an underdog and unheard of player by many has remained undefeated. Rogers, who when interviewed, told Inside Pool reporter Vanessa de la Cuetara that he rarely plays One Pocket, today defeated top philipino player Leonardo Andam, to remain undefeated and play Hall of Famer Nick Varner. Varner spent over 5 hours dispatching a very game Mike Davis to remain undefeated himself.  Davis moved to the left side of the bracket to play one of the pre-tournament favorites, Tony “T-Rex” Chohan.  Davis was unable to hold off Chohan and Struggled to hold on to a 2-0 and 3-2 Lead. Chohan proved why he was the favorite and emerged victorious at 4-3.

Tomorrow is the conclusion of both the one-pocket and 10-ball divisions. Matches begin at twelve noon with free live streaming for all you pool hall junkies.
