At the age of 29 Darren Appleton is the World Ranked No.1 player in English 8-Ball Pool, and with so many years ahead of him he has already achieved a legendary status in the game. This is how he has managed to achieve so much in so little time.
Appleton lives in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, England where he was born and raised. Darren’s time is focused on constantly improving his cueing ability. He is so committed to the cue sport that he also runs a very successful pool Tour and does what he can to promote other tournaments around the UK and afar. He particularly loves coaching young kids who hope to emulate him. In his spare time his ideal day would be spending time with his family and friends, ideally fishing with his Dad, or playing football or Golf with his 2 brothers.
Darren was always interested in playing all sports from a very young age, but he first tried his hand at Pool at the age of 8, when his brother Shane, now also a Professional in the game, got a small 6 foot table for a Christmas present. However at that age the interest was on the green of a football pitch and not the green of the baize, so the table was sold a year later, as Darren like most young lads took his chances at becoming a Professional football player. Throughout Darren’s school days it was always evident that he was a natural athlete, becoming heavily interested in different sports, including Boxing and Fishing, it was obvious that he was naturally gifted in most and was a sporting all rounder.
Appleton recently won the World 10-Ball Championship in Manilla, Philippines where he defeated former World 8-Ball and World 9-Ball Chia-Ching Wu in the finals.
