Wiseman Wins Carolina Open Warm-up

The Carolina Open, hosted by Fast Eddie’s in Goldsboro, NC, launched a six-day series of events October 6 with a $250-added warm-up 9-ball tournament that drew 32 players and was won by Ronnie Wiseman over Charlie Bryant in the finals. On Tuesday the event began its official proceedings with its $5,000-added one-pocket tournament, featuring a field of 30. Opening rounds of play featured races to three, with a double-elimination race to five on the docket for the finals Thursday.
By Tuesday night, the winners’ side in the one-pocket event had been whittled down to eight players, including Earl Strickland, Mike Davis, and Brandon Shuff. Also set to play in the winners’ side round of eight, scheduled for a 3 p.m. start Wednesday, were Chris Adams, who’d sent Wiseman west in the opening round, and Sam Monday. Scott Rabon was scheduled to face Strickland, as Tony Chohan took on Davis. Jeff Abernathy, who’d sent Bryant to the one-loss side in the second round of play, was to face Shuff.
Advancing to the west bracket’s round of eight were Craig Wolfe, scheduled to play Sylver Ochoa, Sydney Champion versus Barry Boney, Brian White against Larry Kressel, and Bryant set to take on Mike Fuller.
