Tony Crosby came from a second-round defeat to battle through and win the finals of the KF Cues Open 9-Ball Tour the weekend of October 25-26. In the concurrent amateur event, Jose Ybarra captured the first-place prize. The $600-added amateur event drew 32 entrants, while the $1,000-added open event got 24. Both events were held at Stroker’s Billiards in Palm Harbor, FL.

As Crosby was battling back from the one-loss side, room owner Jose Del Rio joined WPBA pro Tracie Hines, Johnny “The Rocket” Demet, and Mark Wathen among the winners’ side final four. Hines defeated Del Rio 9-7 as Demet bested Wathen in a hill-hill battle. Demet sent Hines to the semifinals against Crosby with a 9-6 win to gain the hot seat.

On the one-loss side, it was Crosby and Tony Ruberto waiting for DelRio and Wathen. Crosby had gone through Julio Aquino and Jason Richko to take on Del Rio. Ruberto bested Ted Lepak and Brett Hawes for the right to meet Wathen. Crosby battled Del Rio to double-hill before advancing to the quarterfinals against Ruberto, who’d defeated Wathen 9-4. Crosby then bested Ruberto 9-2 for the right to face off against Hines in the semifinals and defeated her 9-2 to reach Demet.

Crosby capitalized on his own momentum and jumped out to an early and ultimately insurmountable 8-2 lead over Demet. He broke and ran a few racks in the process and allowed Demet only one more rack before cruising into the winning slot 9-3.

In the amateur event, JoseYbarra withstood a strong challenge from the one-loss side by Josh Degler, who’d been defeated in the opening round of play and battled back through eight opponents to reach the finals. In spite of a two-rack handicap at the start, however, Degler had to settle for second place as Ybarra took top honors with a decisive 9-4 win.
