In a tournament streamed live over the Internet, B.J. Hucks avenged a hot seat defeat at the hands of Jared McGee to capture first place in the Great Southern Billiard Tour stop the weekend of October 4-5. The $1,500-added main event drew 50 entrants to Smokehouse Billiards in Myrtle Beach, SC, while the $250-added second chance tournament on Sunday drew 24 entrants.
Early on Sunday, McGee and Hucks met in the hot seat match after sending Josh Roberts and Larry Jackson west to battle for fifth place. In the first of two double-hill battles they would eventually play against each other, it was McGee earning the hot seat.
On the one-loss side, Scott Lewis and Greg Dix met Roberts and Jackson, with Roberts advancing 9-4 and Dix defeating Jackson 9-6. Dix then advanced to the semifinals against Hucks with a 9-5 victory over Roberts. Hucks earned his chance to meet McGee in the finals with a 9-7 win over Dix.
In the opening set of the true double-elimination finals, Hucks and McGee battled through their second hill-hill contest, with Hucks forcing the second set. Hucks caught fire at that point and took an 8-1 lead in that second set. He allowed McGee to win two more games before he surged ahead to reach the hill first and win the tournament on a long-table 3-9 combination.
The second chance event saw Teddy Moore take the first place prize, defeating Wendell Thompkins in the finals. Chris Carbaugh and Dave Boskey finished in a tie for third place.
